About Rooted In Travel
Founder of Rooted In Travel
My name is Tobi Cameron! My passion for travel and tracing family roots inspired Rooted In Travel. The photo above shows my husband and me on Clan Cameron lands in Fort William, Scotland, a place that deeply connects to his heritage. Our first visit in 2022 was so meaningful that we returned in 2024 with our daughters to explore more of the Highlands.
I will use my own personal experience to curate personalized travel plans that take you directly to the places your ancestors once called home. You have done the family tree and ancestry research. I will put it all together for a truly memorable experience!
The "Birth" of Rooted In Travel
What inspired Rooted In Travel? My maiden name is "Root," (from old English records it was "Roote or Rootes"). Some of my favorite television shows are "Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr." and "Who Do You Think You Are?" I've been captivated by these programs and have spent two decades tracing my family's lineage alongside my husband's on Ancestry.com. Our two trips to Scotland were pivotal both personally and professionally. They prompted me to leave my job at the local high school and venture into the travel industry!
My husband and I hail from Massachusetts. We have two daughters, ages 23 and 26. We have lived in Indiana, Michigan, and the Finger Lakes of New York but we've called South Carolina home for the past 15 years.

My family at Achnacarry Castle, the historic home of Clan Cameron, located near Fort William in the stunning Highlands of Scotland! Slàinte mhath!

For the past 12 years Outlander has been my other passion! I started the novel and the series at the same time with a local book club. Our first trip to Scotland in 2022 combined heritage and the Outlander series locations together. It was a dream! Above is what is known as Lallybroch (Midhope Castle), the home of Jamie Fraser.
